Ok, people, get a life. How bad have we become when the first lady of Maryland has to apologize to Britney Spears for making a joke that was so obviously a joke that the furor boggles the mind.
For those living in a cave, Kendel Ehrlich, wife of Maryland Governor Robert Ehrlich, made a comment in a public speech that she would like to shoot Britney Spears. She was discussing how hard it is to raise children today with all the sexual images that they face in the media. Britney Spears was the example she used of sexual imagery.
Lets face it, Britney can do a million interviews denying that she is trying to use sex to revitalize her career, but her own actions are proving her a liar. Kissing Madonna on TV is a sexually provocative act. Her new wardrobe is certainly a sexually provocative act. Miss Not-Quite-A-Woman is trying to prove now that she is.
Nonetheless, Kendel Ehrlich was discussing a legitimate societal concern. Does anyone out there actually think she would go and shoot Britney Spears? Ok, does anyone out there actually think she was truly advocating someone else shooting Britney Spears? She was discussing the difficulty of raising children today and used a relevant social image to make a point.
She made a joke, people. Laugh, for god's sake. Laugh for your own sake.
