Ok, let me preface this by stating clearly that I do not condone rape.
rant
Illinois just passed a law that states that a man can still be convicted of rape if the woman changes her mind mid-act and the man does not stop the sex act immediately.
Ok, my first question is what defines "immediately?" I am sorry, but no one, man or woman, is going to just stop, say ok and withdraw from the bed in the middle of a sex act. First, they will ask if it was a joke. Next, they will rationalize with their partner as to why. All this takes time and likely the two will still be entangled. If you apply the letter of the law, the "offending" partner is guilty of rape for that justification.
Women will always tell you that rape is an act of aggression. It is violence and has nothing to do with the sex act. I firmly believe that this is true in many cases. However, this also proves how little women really understand about men. You will never be able to convince me that any man who is accused of rape in this instance did it to be violent or aggressive. Any man accused of rape in this situation remained "entangled" because he was confused, disbelieving, too far gone to immediately stop, or any combination of the previous and more.
When does it become the woman's job to take responsibility for her own actions? When do we say enough? I am not saying that once you start, you are committed 'til the end, but where are we as a society when we feel we have to make laws like this? If one partner wants to quit in the middle of sex, they should be allowed; it does happen but now, if the woman decides mid-act that she wants to stop, she can have the man charged with rape if she feels he did not do so quickly enough. Theoretically, could the man do the same?
We are reaching the point where sex will need to be video-taped so a man can cover his arse. But wait, that brings up a whole new set of charges. There is a limit to Political Correctness. I think this law has found it.
