rant

Ok, it's moving time again. I have not moved in two years. At my age, I should own instead of renting, but I just cannot bring myself to buy something in OK. It is like admitting I want to stay here. That is not the case, so I rent. I owned when I lived in Denver.

Anyway, I digress. I hate moving. I have said this before. This is not quite like moving my friend from NJ to OK, but it still is a pain in the arse. I have a friend with a very large truck, so at least I do not have to deal with a moving company. The last company I used did a good job, but they did not bring a piano dolly and almost dropped my piano. Well, I am more comfortable moving it myself this time.

Anyway, back to my rant. This whole move is predicated on the fact that my current complex has decided to start charging tenants for water and trash. If that is not galling enough, as that is supposed to be part of the rental costs, they are basing it on the number of rooms you have in your apartment. I am one man living in a two bedroom, so I pay what two people in a two bedroom are paying. In essence, I am paying twice what I should just because I chose to rent a place with more space. No, I do not like that.

So, time to find a new place. You go and look at places. This could be fun, right? No. It is not. One place I looked at was currently occupied. The tenant smoked... alot. And he was a pig. The leasing agent had to take out 3 bags of trash before she would let me in. I am sorry, but this would be cause to find a new apartment to show prospective tenants.

I decided I wanted to rent a two-bedroom duplex. Tons of those in this town. I could not get a single agent to return a phone call. Axe that. Finally, I found a two bedroom townhouse. The price is right and it is decent inside and large. The only downside is that my full-size washer and dryer won't fit in there. Fine, I will sell them and get a stackable. No biggie.

The application form requests I provide information that is technically illegal for the agency to be asking. They want bank account numbers, which is fine because those they can get off the check, but they also want credit card numbers. I am sorry, but I am not providing my credit card numbers to anyone just for a credit check. That can be done with my name and birthdate. So now, I am worried that they will deny me the place because I will not provide them with information they have no right to ask for in the first place.

Could I sue them? Sure. Would I? No. It is not worth the time. They know this, so they get away with asking and denying if they want. Of course, this is a bit premature. They may just not worry about it. The man who showed me the townhouse seemed like a really nice guy. Heck, the lady who showed me the smokehouse seemed like a nice lady. I actually felt bad for her.

Well, we will see what happens. I have friends lined up waiting to damage their backs for me. For this, I will provide pizza and beer. For some reason, that is the price of moving help in America. I am willing to pay this. The piano weighs 600 lbs. hehehe
